The Linbox Rescue Server (LRS)
PCs can let you down- as any machine - or be damaged by viruses as well as unproper use. Users protest rightly while IT administrators feel like they are wasting their time.
The Linbox Rescue Server (LRS) is a software suite consisting in all features required for a proper, local or remote, facility management. It can be used on one single site, as well as dozens, to deploy, monitor and fix all the (mostly Windows and GNU/Linux) PCs of a LAN or a WAN. The LRS must be installed on a machine running GNU/Linux, installed on the same LAN than the PCs it is going to handle. The administration can be managed through any Web browser from any local or remote PC. It uses a system of PXE boot loader and does not require the installation of any specific client software on the machines.
1. Main features
The LRS main features read as follows :
- Facility supervision through the use of a single multi-functional Web interface console. The use of both an encrypted tunnel and an authorization system guarantees the control and the confidentiality of transfers between the local network and the outside.
- System backup and recovery under Windows or GNU/Linux in just a few minutes (e.g. 10/15mn for Windows + Office XP). The system backup is a complete image of the hard disk that contains the operating system, softwares and parameters. One single image (master) can be used for multi PCs deployment, thanks to the post-installation features (e.g. deployment of Windows PCs in a domain). You can choose whatever partition you want to backup or recover. Copy can be stored on hard drive, CD or DVD. Learn more about system back-up

- Users' files backup or recovery created under Windows, GNU/Linux as well as Unix. Incremental or full backups are automatically carried out on hard disks and/or tapes for any file created or modified according to a frequency to define. You will typically store a rolling 30 days of backup on the LRS server disk(s). A compression system and various functionalities further decrease the space needed for data storage to around 1/3 of the original size. Recovery is very easy and just requires a few clicks on the Web interface. Learn more about data back-up

- Full software and hardware inventory. The server carries out a full inventory of the machine and its environment each time a PC connected to the network over a 24h period: Inventory of hardware (processor, cards, memories, hard disk, number of disks...), peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) as well as softwares (type, editors, version etc.) and network information (IP address, output, etc.) . The administrator can receive an e-mail alert when there is a change between two inventory sessions.

- Remote control of the client PCs.
Additional modules can be installed in order to perfectly adapt the server to the specifics of each infrastructure (eg. tape backup, VPN, etc.).
